Nathan Bultman

It takes a lot of courage and strength to reach out in a time of need and the fact that you are seeking therapy says a lot about you as a person. If you choose me as your therapist, I promise to help you work through difficult situations in life without judgement or pressure.

My primary approach is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which focuses on replacing negative or distorted thoughts with more positive, truthful and helpful patterns of thinking. CBT is the most researched and practiced therapy today and has proven to decrease anxiety, depression, panic attacks, ADHD symptoms and other mental health problems. I have also been certified as a TEAM CBT therapist through The Feeling Good Institute, which emphasizes the importance of Testing, Empathy, Agenda-setting and Methods in the treatment process.

Additionally, I specialize in repairing adult attachment using the Three Pillars method developed over the past 20 years by Dr. Dan Brown & Dr. David Elliott. This treatment has been found to help individuals with insecure attachment and complex trauma become securely attached and function more successfully in relationships. This therapy generates a new internal working model of attachment that was set in the early stages of life and allows the individual to operate out of a secure place when interacting with others.

I also specialize and am fully trained in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), an evidence-based treatment for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), which can decrease symptoms of PTSD in a relatively short amount of time. Additionally, I have been trained in the Nurtured Heart Approach to highlight an individual's strengths and positive qualities exhibited in their daily lives. Recognizing these qualities in session helps internalize these strong points and increases self-esteem in the individual.

My desire in working in counseling is to create a strong therapeutic relationship together in order to achieve the goals you want to accomplish during our time together. If ever an issue of concern were to arise in therapy, it is very important to me that I can talk about it with you and make it right. I promise to do so in a very kind, sensitive and understanding manner.

Kerrie Clark obtained her Master’s in Community Counseling with an emphasis on Marriage and Family Therapy from Western Michigan University. She is also trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).  

Kerrie is a general practitioner, meaning she works with a variety of concerns including:

  • Mood and anxiety disorders
  • Emotional, physical, and sexual abuse
  • Life transitions
  • Grief and loss
  • Gender identity issues
  • Relationship, family, and parenting issues
  • Defiant child/adolescent behavior

Kerrie specializes in helping others process traumatic experiences so what happened to them becomes a source of strength, rather than an overwhelming weight. She enjoys working with children and adolescents age 3 and up by utilizing play and art therapy techniques to help them gain comfort and express emotion. She also works with couples who are looking to strengthen their relationship or separate amicably.

Kerrie’s theory base is mainly cognitive behavioral and EMDR; however, she incorporates techniques from other theories depending on what each client needs. She believes every client has the power within themselves to find fulfillment; sometimes they just need to view their situation from a different angle or with a new lens to find the right path.

Alicia graduated from Spring Arbor University with a Master’s in Counseling, and her approach is strongly rooted in showing every client empathy and unconditional regard. It is her goal to provide you with a safe environment in which to build and maintain a trusting, therapeutic relationship. By doing so, she is able to work with you in a supportive way to help you achieve the goals you set together. Alicia uses evidence-based approaches like Cognitive Behavioral, Motivational Interviewing, and Solution-Focused Therapies, and she is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). While her specialty is working with substance use disorders, she also has experience working with women who have experienced sexual trauma and/or domestic violence.

Amy Hubbard earned a BA from Kalamazoo College. After teaching in private and public schools and raising her own children, she returned to school to earn an MA in Counseling Psychology from Western Michigan University. She has worked with individuals of all ages with varying issues including, but not limited to: mood and personality disorders, physical and sexual abuse, anger management, eating disorders, anxiety, depression, relationship issues and major life changes.

Amy takes a Person-Centered approach to counseling which recognizes that each individual has tremendous strengths to build on and the ability to reach their full potential. She strives to create a safe, confidential environment where personal growth can occur. A good client-therapist relationship, one that is caring, non-judgmental and genuine, is of primary importance. Amy often employs Cognitive-Behavioral techniques to focus on how negative self-talk can hold us back in life. However, she recognizes that each individual is unique and requires a different approach to counseling.

Lisa received an MA in Counseling Psychology from Western Michigan University. Lisa is a licensed therapist with over 20 years experience in the mental health field. If you struggle with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, traumatic memories or are just feeling overwhelmed and unable to cope, she is a therapist that can help you identify your strengths and resiliency, leading to a more fulfilling life. Lisa’s role as a clinician is to provide clients with a compassionate, caring, nonjudgmental environment helping individuals work toward their full potential at a pace that feels safe and secure. She has received training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, DBT, (Dialectical Behavior Therapy), Mindfulness Therapy, EMDR and Trauma Model Therapy by the Colin A. Ross Institute. Cheryl Ahrens is a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW). She obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and her Master of Social Work degree from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Cheryl specializes in working with children and adolescents. She understands that children have unique needs and challenges, and knows how to engage children to facilitate positive outcomes. As Mister Rogers said, “Play is really the work of childhood.” Cheryl creates a safe environment in which her young clients can do this work. She utilizes play therapy techniques and cognitive behavioral strategies to help young people express their emotions and work through difficult issues. Cheryl also enjoys working with adults dealing with parenting challenges. She meets all clients where they are at and helps them to define a way forward through whatever challenges they may be facing. Most importantly, Cheryl believes in the inherent value and worth of each person, and in the power of relationships and connection. She focuses on each client’s strengths, and helps clients to harness those strengths to build positive coping skills and improve relationships with others. Cheryl’s focus includes the following issues: anxiety, depression, ADHD, sensory processing issues, school issues, grief and loss, social skills, behavior issues, and parenting difficulties. She employs various therapeutic modalities depending on the needs and age of the client, including cognitive behavioral therapy, play therapy, art therapy, and mindfulness practices.
